I’m a sucker for cool, do-it-yourself projects. Doesn’t matter what it is: closet shelving, duct-tape wallets,
bookshelves…I’d much rather try and make stuff myself than just go out and buy it.
The problem is that all too often, the project’s instructions make me create something that’s not really my style. I like funky, artsy things, and most at-home projects are very cut and dried. Snooze.
Well, if you love unique/retro/artsy and you love doing at-home projects, you’re going to be very happy about the website I discovered recently.
The website is ReadyMade.com. It’s actually a magazine, but their website is chock full (and I mean chock full) of complete plans on how to build stuff.
And, all the projects are really cool.
- Want to make your own messenger bag out of grocery bags? Done.
- Interested in making a photo-puzzle out of old black and white photographs? You got it.
- Want to turn that antique suitcase of yours into a functional dog bed? Presto!
- Want to learn how to take that FedEx Envelope and turn it into a cool wallet? Easy…
I can’t say enough about how cool this site is. Most of the projects let you turn ordinary things you have around the house into something extraordinary. The project plans are very detailed (with luscious pictures), they tell you exactly what you need to have on-hand, how much you can expect to spend on supplies, as well as what skill level the project is at.
They also have a wonderful section on Home Tips and Tricks (like: when you’re baking cupcakes or muffins, leave one corner cup empty so you can grab it easier when you pull out the pan), and a bunch of recipes.
For those of you who want to save money by making your own christmas gifts this year, this site will be a boon. There are literally hundreds of projects posted in their archives, and an entire section devoted to gifts.
Anyway, the site is ReadyMade.com, and it’s more than worth the time to check it out. If I didn’t work for a living I’d probably be scouring their site doing projects all day. They’re that cool.
And no, I promise I’m not affiliated with the site in any way (although I probably sound like I’m an advertising rep due to my enthusiasm…) I just think it’s a really great resource for all the do-it-yourselfers out there!
