I just read a great tip – you can use plain popcorn instead of packing peanuts and then the receiver can leave it out for the birds! I’m glad you pointed out they could be recycled though – I didn’t realize that

Thanks for writing in! It’s amazing how many tons of these packing peanuts end up in landfills every year simply because people aren’t aware they can be recycled.

People can also visit Earth911.com to find a local recycling center that will take packing peanuts as well.

I’m with you on the packing peanuts. Terrible for the environment. I didn’t know they could be recycled, so thanks for the info!
