The cotton bags can be washed, (shrinking can be a problem) and are the preferred style of bag for conservators, designers and archivers. While they are more expensive than the recycled plastic kind, they will last much longer. They are tough and yet provide such delicate care for anything from dress shirts to wedding gowns.

We sell not only our style of re-usable dry cleaning bags but also many sizes of regular unbleached cotton bags. Why can't they be made in cotton cheap enough for dry cleaners? Maybe it's time to change the culture of dry cleaners.
Cotton is better..Green Garmento is trying to make a buck off the green movement and not really interested in a sustainable lifestyle.
Check out the cotton garment bags...

Too bad the Green Garmento bag is made out of the thing we want not to use..PLASTIC! and you can’t wash it. I prefer the Reusenik cotton bag made by with the zipper.
http://www.thegreenestdollar.com/?p=572#comment-803

Heather,
Thank you for the nice words and even more for your defense of our effort.
Our goal is to fully replace the 300,000,000+ single use plastic drycleaning bags that annually end up in this country's landfills. We don't pretend polypropylene bags are perfect, that's why our tagline is, "Be Fantastic, Use Less Plastic." Perfect would be a world that had needed no fuel, no steel, no compromises between living our lives and protecting our earth. But in the meantime, if our drycleaners replace 300,000,000 single use with reusable bags that we can then recyclable, seems to me that's a very large step in the right direction.
And it's not just plastic that gets saved: the drycleaners that change from single use to reusable garment bags spend between 50 and 70% less on their year to year garment shipping/protection costs, that's pretty cool, huh?
And it's why we give out the free GREEN GARMENTO's (which, LInda we do have for you and anyone else who wants one); it's the best way we know to help environmentally conscious consumers introduce this concept to their drycleaner.
Thanks again, Rick from THE GREEN GARMENTO.

Heather,

Thank you for the nice words and even more for your defense of our effort.

Our goal is to fully replace the 300,000,000+ single use plastic drycleaning bags that annually end up in this country’s landfills. Thanks for taking the time to write in.
I must respectfully disagree with your views on this product, and here's why: Rick and his team at the Green Garmento are trying to sell this bag en masse to dry cleaners all around the country. Yes, it's made from recycled polypropolene, but every bag that is given out to consumers is going to replace dozens or hundreds of "traditional" plastic bags that the cleaners normally give out (and which are quickly thrown away).
If these bags were made from organic cotton, they would be far too expensive for these dry cleaning companies to buy in bulk. That's just a fact of business. If he used organic cotton these bags would be four times the price, and far fewer people would buy/have access to them. So I think that he's doing the most good for the most people buy using recycled plastic.
Secondly, every review that I put up here at the Greenest Dollar is my honest opinion. There were no criticisms of the Green Garmento because I found nothing to criticize, and I'm certainly not going to go looking for fault just to have it in my reviews. That is dishonest and cynical.
Again, thank you for taking the time to give your opinion about this!

Hi Dick,

Thanks for taking the time to write in.

I must respectfully disagree with your views on this product, and here’s why: Rick and his team at the Green Garmento are trying to sell this bag en masse to dry cleaners all around the country. I would never use this. I am not the greenest of people but I recycle and figure that if I replace plastic bag it will be with a natural fiber like cotton or hemp or better yet, organic cotton. With this garmento (dumb name) bag, I would just be replacing one plastic with another. No wonder this guy is handing them out for free. Seriously, this "review" reads like a press release. There was not one critical comment. Please folks, go green but get rid of those products that are made from oil (polypropelene) or plastic, nylon or other man-made fabrics. Please reserve your "heart-felt thanks" for the real thing.

I cannot believe people are buying into this.
