Short post today…I’m heading out to the airport in just a few hours to go visit my family in Louisiana for a week (Crawfish! Panola! Po’Boys! YUM!).
I just wanted to pass on this wonderful article I stumbled onto at The New York Times. It’s called “The Joy of Less“.
It’s the kind of article that needs to be read slowly and savored. So if you’ve got a few minutes grab a cup of coffee, and sink into this piece on finding joy in the hidden, quiet places of all the stuff you don’t have or need anymore. You’ll be inspired.

Thank you for posting this, Heather. You’re so right–it is inspiring. It also reminded me that I haven’t read anything by Pico Iyer for a long time and that he’s a wonderful, wonderful writer.
Happy travels!
Michele,
You’re welcome! I’ve never heard of him, at least not until I stumbled upon this article. His writing is so wonderful, I’m going to look up his books and see if I can get one for my Kindle to read on the plane!
Just wanted to say that this article is amazing. Required reading for everyone who insist on buying buying buying..
I really liked Video Night in Kathmandu!
@Land Refinancing- I know. Pico Iyer’s writing is so simple, so heartfelt, and so beautiful. This article made me really happy.
@Michele- I’m going to look that one up. Thanks for the suggestion!
