Where The Heck I’ve Been…

by heather

7792328So, if you’ve been wondering why I’ve only posted two articles in the past two weeks, or you’ve been considering deleting your Greenest Dollar bookmark because you think I’ve dropped off the face of the Earth, here’s where the heck I’ve been:

About 2 1/2 weeks ago I went out of town to visit my family in Louisiana. And right before I left, I got what I can only describe as a jewel of an idea for a novel.

Now, I’ve written fictional novels before (4, to be exact). The problem is, I’ve never finished one. I usually get about half way through, and then it peters out.

It’s distressing, to say the least. Writing a novel is very much like running a marathon: a test of endurance. And I’ve always run out of steam around mile 16. Not finishing like that is just painful, like watching a world you built from scratch crumble around your ears.

Well, I woke up one morning and this idea was just there. And it was so good it felt like someone had sneaked up in the night and placed a diamond in my hand.

So that day, I started plotting and planning, and building the foundation for everything that was going to come. My plan was to do what I always did. Basically, write 1,000 words a day like all the good writing books say you should do, keep up with my copywriting work, and of course, keep posting on the blog.

Well, this book has completely taken over everything. I haven’t been writing 1,000 words a day. I’ve been writing around 5,000. And I’ve also been blessed with a ton of copywriting work at the same time. Which means I’ve been writing around 13 hours a day, just on those two things.

Which is why you all haven’t heard a peep from me in going on three weeks!

I just wanted to fill you all in so you didn’t think I’d a) died, b) stopped blogging, or c) bought a Hummer and completely renounced my green and frugal ways.

The truth is that I have to finish this book. It’s taking everything I’ve got, and then some, which is why I just don’t have the time or energy to research and write daily for The Greenest Dollar.

The good news? After almost three weeks, I think I’m already half way done. I’ve got about 260 novel pages written up. Yahoo!

I promise that as soon as this book is done I’ll be back and posting 4-5 times per week like I usually do. And I’m going to try, from now on, to get at least one post in per week. I’ve missed posting and talking with all of you!

But actually finishing a novel, a good one, has been a dream of mine for a very long time. And I know this is the one!

So I’ll be back soon!

Thanks for the inspiration. Now I need to get to work on my ebook. 🙂

Hey, glad you’re working. Especially after visiting Louisiana, a land where brain cells go to die. How else can you explain the urge for them folk to suck the heads off crawfish? Huh?

But, knock off the Hummer cracks… huh? Some of us actually had Hummers that ran on bio-fuel. I don’t wanna have to hunt you down and park on top of your Prius… 🙂

Btw: If your Hummer does run on bio-fuel, it smells just like french fries. Man, I put on twenty pounds driving that dang thing around. I was always hungry! 🙂
