Himalayan Pink Salt
Have you ever heard of Himalayan Pink Salt? Well, I hadn’t either until I tried some from Mountain Rose Herbs. And then I promptly fell in love.
I tried three products from this company, which makes organic/Fair Trade herbs, spices, teas, and body care products. There was the luscious Himalayan Pink Salt, a jar of Macadamia Nut Oil, and the West Indies Rub.
Let’s start with the salt, which was by far the tastiest salt I’ve ever had.
Himalayan Pink Salt
Himalayan Pink Salt is believed to be the purest salt on Earth, and its flavor comes from marine fossil deposits that were formed over 250 million years ago.
So, how does this salt differ from regular table salt? Well, words really can’t describe it, so here’s an analogy:
Imagine your grandmother driving a 1985 Ford Escort with bald tires. Slow and predictable, right?
Now imagine what it’d be like to ride in a brand new BMW M3 coupe with Clive Owen behind the wheel.
Um, yes please!
Yes, they’re both cars and they’ll both get you to the same place, but they’re in entirely different stratospheres when it comes to the experience of driving. And that’s what this tasty Pink Himalayan salt is like. Salt is salt, sure, but this is the BMW M3 coupe of salt. With a dash of Clive Owen thrown in.
Yum just doesn’t cut it.
The Pink Himalayan Salt is incredibly flavorful, and adds a unique burst of flavor to whatever food you sprinkle it on. It’s like fairy dust; no matter what it goes on, it’s going to make it taste better. I used the Himalayan Pink Salt on everything from hard boiled eggs to salads, and can honestly say it was divine each and every time I used it.
Macadamia Nut Oil
If you caught my post on “How To Make Your Own Lavender Oil”, then you know I’ve been using olive oil instead of lotion for my dry skin. And, it’s been working out great.
I was super excited to try this Macadamia Nut Oil because I’ve always loved the smell of Macadamia anything, and I was anxious to see if the oil would be as long-lasting in my skin as my olive oil has been.
And, I wasn’t disappointed.
The oil works fantastic as a skin lotion, and if you love the nutty smell of Macadamia nuts you’ll love this oil. It kept my skin moist all day just like my lavender olive oil does, and once it’s soaked into my skin the nutty smell fades into a soft fragrance. I can wholeheartedly say I loved this oil as much, if not more, than the olive oil I’m already using.
You can also use the Macadamia nut oil for cooking, which is something I’m going to try next. I think it would work great in a stir fry so you could really taste the nuttiness of the oil.
West Indies Rub
Mountain Rose Herb’s West Indies Rub is a Caribbean-inspired blend that works great on stir fry, fish, tofu, or gumbo. It has a decidedly Creole flavor, but without the spiciness that usually goes with those type of rubs.
My thoughts?
YUM.
It’s salty and heady and with just enough heat to let you know it’s there. I loved it, and will be coating my tofu with this stuff until it’s gone. And then I’ll order another bottle.
I’ve been eating it on stir-fried tofu with brown rice. Just sprinkle this stuff on after you’ve taken it off the heat, and drizzle just a bit of sesame oil on the top.
Frugal, healthy, and completely delicious. I’m fast becoming addicted to this stuff.
Last Word…
I was completely impressed with all the products I tried from Mountain Rose Herbs. And, the company itself has impressed me with their commitment to organic and Fair Trade products, as well as the lengths they’re going to in order to create a more sustainable business. They’re a Zero Waste company, and the steps they take to run a responsible, ethical, eco-friendly business are truly amazing.
One of their mottos is a simple statement that I wish all of us would live by:
“The frog does not drink up the pond in which it lives”
I will definitely be ordering more products from this great company. I’m anxious to try their teas next, and as soon as I’m done with the boxes I just bought those will be next on my list.

I will try the salt asap!
I am about to place my second order with Mountain Rose, actually, I have a friend who organizes a BIG order. It saves in shipping costs + especially when several people are ordering the same herbs, we get the bigger bag + divide it. She calls us when it arrives and we help her sort out the bags + pay for our goods. My mother has been ordering from Frontier + recently made the switch. It’s all really good stuff.
I’ll take Clive any day over the ’85 Escort, and I’ll bet the BMW gets better gas millage, thus saving you that much more.
Great post! I too recently discovered Himalayan sea salt and can’t believe I have ever cooked without it! I got mine from Sustainable Sourcing https://secure.sustainablesourcing.com. I love that they are a “green” company, they donate to environmental causes and their products are amazing! I encourage everyone to make the switch. I promise that you will never go back to table salt again.
Heather,
Where exactly does Himalayan Pink Salt come from? I mean… I’ve actually been to the Himalayans, and I’ve never seen it there once.
Wait… I know, it’s the salt deposited on a Himalayan cat’s tongue, after they groom themselves, right? And, that explains why it’s so expensive. It takes a lot of cats to fill up that jug…
Man, how’s that for a “Green Job…”
“Hello, I’m here to scrape your cat’s tongue. No charge, I’ll just keep the residue.”
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
And by the way, the reason that “The frog does not drink up the pond in which it lives†is that they drink “Bud-wei-ser.” I know it’s true, because I saw it on TV, on ESPN.
You should really pay more attention to commercials. You might learn something…
I gotta go now. I just saw a cat. Now, where’d I put that scraper?

PS. My reCaptcha phrase was “recourse for…” It’s almost like they know I’m coming, huh? 🙂
I vote with my dollars and Mountain Rose herbs will never get one more dollar from me. I went there last summer, to pick up a big order from my buying club, we incorporated the pick up as part of a family trip, so I had my elder mother and recently potty trained 2 year old. I got there and my daughter needed to use the bathroom and I told the lady we had been driving for 3 hrs and SHE REFUSED TO LEND THE BATHROOM TO MY GIRL! I asked her if they had a bathroom, she said yes, for employees only. What a mean lady, I explained it was not for me but for the little one, she told us to go a block down the road to another bussiness, that they woudl let us use the restroom! what a MEAN person… I only took our order because it was for the buying club, but really.. I can only wonder what “fair bussiness” they can do if they can’t lend the restroom to a 2 year old whose mother just picked up hundreds of dollars worth of products. I did follow up via e-mail and I am still waiting for a response. Nice website, maybe nice products. MEAN people (at least the lady with the accent at the front office).
